This super easy, low prep E is for Easter eggs letter craft is a creative way to incorporate early literacy into Easter craft activities and build fine motor skills. I've also included a free printable letter E template you can use to make this craft even easier for young children. This letter E craft is also a great activity to incorporate into your letter of the week learning for letter E either at home or in the classroom.
This E is for Easter eggs craft is a great way to teach young children about the letter E as it involves minimal items and Easter eggs are an easily recognisable item that start with the letter E. Even most toddlers will recognise and understand what Easter eggs are and they shouldn't get overwhelmed by the craft as it doesn't involve too many steps. Plus there's no possibility of a sugar high from these Easter eggs!
Putting the Easter eggs onto the shape of a capital letter E also introduces and reinforces letter recognition and the letter formation of E. You can also talk about how the letters ea in the word Easter eggs make the long ē sound.
We used wood Easter egg stickers from Kmart, however if you can't find stickers like that you can use foam Easter egg stickers or puffy Easter egg stickers to still get the same raised tactile effect. You'll need egg stickers that are 2.5cm {1"} or smaller to stay within the letter outline.
If you're not worried about the stickers being raised then any Easter egg stickers will be fine. Another tip if you're using a sheet of stickers is to remove the sticky background so it's easier for children to peel the individual stickers off the sheet.
HOW TO MAKE LETTER E IS FOR EASTER EGG CRAFT
If you're doing this as a craft activity with a group of children in a classroom I suggest making up a finished letter E so they have an example. You may also want to pre-cut out the letter E templates if there are a lot of children who don't have well developed scissor skills.
1. Print out letter E template onto coloured paper. We chose to use yellow paper because it contrasted well with our egg stickers and represents Easter, but you can use any colour.
2. Stick the egg stickers onto the letter E template. Try and encourage children to stay within the border of the letter as it will be cut out.
3. Cut out the letter E. Younger children may need some assistance with this step if they aren't confident with scissors yet.
