Letter F Crafts & Activities for Preschoolers

Whether you're an educator planning Letter F Week in your classroom, or a parent looking for creative ways to teacher letters to your child at home, this blog post is your guide to creating a fun letter of the week plan for the letter F through hands-on experiences and imaginative crafts.

I've put together a list of letter F crafts for preschoolers and school children that are for items that start with the letter F and are shaped like the letter F, so they reinforce both the physical formation and the sound of the letter. I've also included lots more letter F activities that include visual, tactile, auditory and movement based ideas. These are great activities to do in kindergarten, at home, in class at school, or during homeschooling with children aged 3-6yrs old.

LETTER OF THE WEEK CRAFTS: LETTER F

The letters of the alphabet are one of the first concepts taught in school because they're the foundation for reading and writing, communication skills and language development. It's important that students have a strong grasp of the letters of the alphabet including letter formation and phonics so they can then recognise the letters, understand the sounds they make and use them to form written words and to learn to read.

Below is an extensive list of 14 letter F crafts that include both lowercase and uppercase options for animals and items in the shape of F {or f} including f is for fish, f is for frog, f is for flower and lots more. I've also added 12 additional crafts that can be done during letter F week that aren't in the letter shape of F, but will help to reinforce the phonetic sound of F.

Children can easily turn the letter F into a frog with this F is for frog printable activity. Print the templates on green paper to make green tree frogs, or you could do red, orange, yellow or blue for dart frogs.

F is for Fox

F is for fox craft.

A furry animal that lends themselves perfectly to the letter F is a fox. Children can make a friendly fox with this F is for Fox craft. This one only requires different colours of paper, glue and scissors. It's a great way for children to get in lots of scissor practice, or you can pre-cut the pieces for them to assemble.

If you want a slightly easier capital F fox craft with a little less cutting then try this letter F Fox craft. For this craft children can stick on googly eyes, a pom pom nose and fluffy feather tail, which are still great for fine motor building, but easier for younger children that may not have well developed scissor skills.

F is for Fish

F is for fish craft.

F is for fish is another great animal craft for the letter F. Turn the letter F into a fish with just a few additions like a tail, fin, lips and eyes.

If you want a really easy lowercase f is for fish craft then you can turn the letter f into a fish by just adding an eye and some scales. This one is really easy for younger children and I love the fact that celery is used to create the scales.

F is for Flamingo

F is for Fly

OK technically the actual fly isn't in the shape of an F, but this one was too adorable I had to include it. Follow these easy instructions to make this F is for fly craft.

F is for Feathers

Our F is for Feathers craft is a really simple way to make a fluffy tactile letter children can trace their fingers on to practice the correct formation of the letter F. It's part of our sensory alphabet, we're currently working our way through making all the letters to Z.

F is for Flag

The letter F can also be transformed into a flag, by using the colours and symbols of the national flag you're creating. This one with red and white stripes and blue with stars is a letter F American flag, which could also be used as a 4th of July craft.

f is for flower

f is for flower craft.

A lowercase f is easy to turn into a flower (albeit a slightly droopy one}. The main body of the letter f acts as a stem and some horizontal leaves, then you just need to add the flower to the end of the stem. This craft is super easy and only needs 3 pieces of coloured paper.

F is for Fries

F is for fries craft.

This F is for Fries craft is adorable and has a kawaii feel to it with the addition of the eyes and mouth. Again for this one the item is technically not in the shape of an F, however it does include the letter and I think it's a great option if you want to do a food based letter F craft.

F is for Fire

F is for fire craft.

This F is for Fire craft is a fantastic way to use red, orange and yellow tissue paper to represent fire in the shape of the letter F. The technique used to scrunch the tissue paper makes it look like they're actual flames bursting out of the letter.
