If you're looking for a really easy Halloween craft for the kids, try these torn paper ghosts. This ghost craft is perfect for little hands and a great way to get into the spooky spirit! With just a few simple supplies, kids can create their own adorable ghosts that are perfect to decorate the house or classroom for Halloween.
This ghost craft is a great way for children to build their fine motor skills and get creative, while also being low prep for teachers and parents. Simply download the free printable ghost templates and then let the kids fill in their ghost and add a face.
There are 2 ghost templates to choose from and I kept them extremely simple to make them easy enough for toddlers, but they're also fun for older children too. The designs are blank and have a cute Casper the friendly ghost feel rather than being spooky or scary.
If you don't have coloured cardstock, you can always use coloured paper for the background. The googly eyes are optional as children can just draw the eyes on with black marker, or use eye stickers.
If you want the ghosts to have a more 3D effect you can use tissue paper instead of white paper and have children tear it then scrunch it into small balls before gluing it onto the template.
HOW TO CRAFT A TORN PAPER GHOST
1. Print ghost template onto coloured cardstock. We printed both ghost templates and used orange and purple cardstock to keep with a Halloween theme. You can use coloured paper if you don't have any cardstock.
If you want to use a black background: print the template onto white paper, cut it out and trace the outline onto black paper with white pencil so children know where to stick the torn paper. If you want to do this option in a classroom with younger children you may want to cut and trace the ghost outline ahead of time.
2. Tear a sheet of white paper into pieces. Children should be able to do this step themselves. Tearing the paper is a great fine motor activity for children to work on dexterity and it helps build their finger muscles. Don't worry what size or shapes the pieces are.
3. Glue pieces of white paper onto ghost template. Fill the entire ghost with white paper, but don't worry if younger children place the pieces haphazardly or really spaced out, it's more about process than perfection. Set aside to dry.
4. Glue or stick googly eyes onto ghost {optional}. Alternatively, some children may prefer to personalise their ghost design by drawing their own eyes with black marker.
5. Draw mouth onto ghost. Children can draw whatever shaped mouth they like, for example a smiley face or open mouth as if the ghost is saying boo!
I chose to use googly eyes for my ghost and my 7yr old wanted to draw hers as she did ^ ^ eyes. If you don't use googly eyes, or alternatively use eye stickers, then the finished ghosts can be laminated for longevity.
