EASY RUDOLPH THE RED NOSED REINDEER CARDBOARD ROLL CRAFT
Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer is a beloved fictional character from a classic 1939 Christmas story that originated as a booklet from department store Montgomery Ward. It has since been turned into a stop motion television movie, children's books and the song Rudolph the red nosed reindeer.
The story of Rudolph centers around a reindeer with a bright, red nose that glows. This distinctive feature makes him stand out from the other reindeer who pull Santa's sleigh. Rudolph is teased by his fellow reindeer because of his unusual nose.
However, as the story unfolds, his unique trait becomes an asset when a thick fog threatens to disrupt Santa's Christmas Eve journey. Rudolph's glowing nose, which can shine really bright, ultimately guides Santa's sleigh through the fog saving Christmas.
Children can use their toilet paper roll Rudolph to re-tell the story, or sing along to the song.
Supplies needed:
- Black pen
- Sticky tape
- 2 small twigs
- Toilet paper roll
- Adhesive googly eyes
- Red adhesive rhinestone
If you're worried about using toilet paper rolls, you can sanitise them by spraying them with disinfectant spray and then leave them in direct sunlight for an hour. Or you can cut down an empty paper towel roll or wrapping paper roll. If you're doing this craft in a classroom you can buy bulk craft rolls.
Before you get crafting go on a quick nature hunt in the garden, or at the park, to look for small twigs to use for the antlers. Try to find twigs that have a natural fork in them as they'll look most like antlers.
HOW TO MAKE A TOILET PAPER ROLL RUDOLPH THE RED NOSED REINDEER
1. Sticky tape the twigs in place inside the top of the toilet paper roll. Put one twig on either side of the toilet paper roll to represent antlers. Some children may need help with this step.
Depending on the size of your sticks you may need a stronger tape like painters tape, or you can hot glue the sticks into the rolls {this would need to be completed by an adult}.
2. Stick on adhesive googly eyes. Push the eyes on firmly for a second or two to make sure they stick to the toilet paper roll properly. If you don't have adhesive ones you can glue on googly eyes, or use eye stickers.
3. Stick on a red rhinestone as the nose. Hold it in place firmly for a second or two to make sure it sticks properly. When you look at the rhinestone from different angles it will appear to sparkle just like Rudolph's nose.
4. Draw a smile with the black pen.
